I know this gratitude article is a bit late as I usually post this on a Friday or Saturday but better late than never so here goes.
One day I received an email from Jennifer Mannion, a woman from upstate New York with whom I somehow connected on the Internet. I’m not sure how we found each other but we were divinely led to discover that we each have similar interests including, but not limited to, spirituality, natural healing methods (like Reiki and “The Reconnection”) plus other things.
She was alerting me of an interview she did with James Sinclair, the director of a new documentary movie that was just released called “What If?” At this time, it’s not yet captioned for the deaf/hard of hearing population but I was told by the director himself that it will become reality in the very near future. The movie is similar to “The Secret” but goes much, much deeper in the attempt to answer questions like:
- What if the laws of physics don’t apply when you’re truly living in the moment?
- What if we are not victims of our genes? (i.e. baldness or heart disease that “runs in the family”)
- What if the greatest powers of the universe is within you?
- What if it’s possible to sustain ourselves on energy sources other than food?
- What if aging is only a program we learned that can be changed?
WOW! Every single cell, nerve, tissue and organ in my body was tingling with excitement when I saw those questions. I immediately went to Jennifer’s site and read the interview. Boy, little did I know how much I would enjoy it! (Note: Links to the two-part interview are provided at the bottom).
Throughout the entire time I’ve been blogging since April 2006, I’ve repeatedly shared with you powerful ways God has gotten my attention. When James was a kid, his mother had given him a book called “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” (by Joseph Murphy, PhD). When I saw that, I knew it was a message from God to get my hands on it because I felt it. I literally rushed to the bookstore and got myself a copy.
To say I’ve finally “gotten it” would be a major understatement. The book contains similar information found in a host of other books but somehow this particular author’s work clicked with me this time. Have you ever had a certain piece of information revealed to you over and over again from different sources but one day you hear it from a total stranger or read a certain book where all of a sudden, a light bulb went off and everything clicked? Well, that’s what happened with “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind.”
Here’s the weird thing…..without even knowing it, I had been using the power of my subconscious mind over the years, especially after college graduation in the early 80’s! All those visualizations about becoming a pilot, winning sales trips around the world as a stockbroker, becoming the world’s first deaf instrument rated pilot and becoming a national motivational speaker have all been the product of my subconscious mind!
I once wrote how, as a teenager, I used to drive my mother’s car down the middle of the highway out in the country, pretending I was a pilot taking off and landing. I did that for a long time. One day, I got so emotionally caught up because it felt real that I had to pull off to the side and compose myself. I was crying a river of tears because it felt so good. I somehow knew I would one day become a licensed pilot (such testimony of faith!) even though everyone told me otherwise. If the Internet had existed back then, I would have known that deaf pilots had been taking to the skies since the late 40’s!
Several years later, my dream of becoming a pilot came true because I had three things going for me:
- I visualized the end result (i.e. flying the airplane)
- I believed it would happen (kept the faith)
- I kept my mind open to the possibilities (i.e. allowed my intuition, hunches and ideas to lead the way)
But I know there’s more. There’s a way to burrow in deeper. This book teaches you several ways of gaining access to the elusive subconscious mind, one of which includes getting yourself in a drowsy state at which point you impress upon it a certain image of whatever you want to manifest. For instance, say you wanted to get a new car of a specific model and make. Once you’ve achieved the drowsy state of mind, you then bring up the image of yourself driving that particular car and believe it will come to pass. You do this several times until it finally manifests. It’s not your job to worry about the “how” and “when.”
As you can see, I’ve become an arduous student of the subconscious mind. I really want to learn how to open the trapdoor to that “cellar” and gain access to infinite intelligence. Access to where all the answers to my questions are waiting to be found. Access to where the greatest powers of the universe can be harnessed. Access to where God can be found. Access to where I could reverse what was thought to be a genetic thing like balding.
Oh yes, what if?
The conscious mind is like the first floor of your house. It’s full of noise, clutter, negative thoughts and distractions, making it difficult to enter the subconscious mind. But when you become drowsy, your conscious mind is effectively “neutralized” and the trapdoor swings open easily and effortlessly.
The subconscious mind will manifest whatever request you make of it as long as you place your confidence in its ability to do so. When I was visualizing myself as a pilot, I had no idea how I would do it but I trusted I would be led there and I was. I followed whatever hunches, intuitions, impulses, urges and ideas that came up.
Meanwhile, my job was to keep the dream alive by doing what was within my power like driving down the middle of the highway and visiting the local airport practically every weekend. If you take a look at the photo to your left, you’ll see that it looks like a runway! (Photo credit: Stubbyfingers).
It’s important to realize that timing is up to God, not you. As long as your belief remains strong, it will eventually manifest in the outer world in some form, shape or way.
“The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” provides stellar examples of just how important beliefs play a powerful role in the eventual manifestation of our desires.
On page 56 begins a story of a man who was the author’s relative with tuberculosis. The man’s son decided that he would help his father heal. He approached the father and proceeded to tell him that he had met a monk with strange powers.
The monk, according to the son, went to a celebrated healing shrine in Europe and came back with a small fragment of the True Cross set in a ring dating back to the Middle Ages. The son said he purchased the ring from the Monk for $500. When the ring was shown to the father, he practically snatched it from the son, clasped the ring close to his chest, silently prayed and then went to sleep.
Can you guess what happened?
The next morning the father was miraculously healed! Clinical tests showed negative results. What’s fascinating about this story is that the monk was made up. But because the father’s belief in the ring was so strong, the subconscious mind obeyed by bringing about the healing simply because he believed in his heart that it would heal him.
You and I know that it wasn’t the splinter of wood on the ring that healed the father. It was his imagination that was aroused to such a degree that together with his confident expectancy, he was healed through the power of the subconscious mind.
I am so grateful I was led to this book because it has reawakened my desires for an even better life. I want to begin conducting experiments, learning by trial and error, different ways of tapping into this powerful part of my mind. Whereas before I unconsciously tapped into the “cellar,” I now want to consciously and purposefully tap into this fabulous reservoir and see what happens. I’m so excited!
In fact, the experiments have already begun. I’ve been mediating a lot lately and am learning how to place myself in that drowsy state of mind (either in the late afternoons or right before I go to bed). The problem so far is that I get so drowsy that I end up falling asleep before I have a chance to make a specific request for the subconscious mind! I guess it takes practice. Hehehehe.
Needless to say, I highly recommend this book. I also suggest you check out Part I and Part II of the interview Jennifer Mannion did with James Sinclair, the “What If” director.
To summarize, I’m grateful to be led to both the “What If” movie and “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” book. In addition, I’m thankful Jennifer told me about her interview with the movie’s director because that might lead to other things that have not yet manifested like an interview with him at Adversity University plus other things. Stay tuned!
I’m grateful that while the “What If” movie is not yet closed captioned, it will be. When that happens, I’ll be sure to let you know.
Last but not least, I’m grateful to have a warm home, a car that works in the middle of winter and my health.
Food for thought: Aren’t you grateful that you have the power to reach inside your subconscious mind and literally alter your future exactly the way you want it to look like?

Thank you Stephen…for your mention, linking and for your friendship. It has been wonderful sharing the synchronicities in our spiritual journey!
I read Joe Murphy’s book 2 years ago in the very beginning of my healing journey and your comments make me know I want to read it again. I am so happy you have connected with James Sinclair and look forward to when you can watch “What If?”
I think we both feel now that the mind knows no limits…. We have both accomplished what others might have said was “impossible”. Yet, there are variables…. God/The Divine/The Universe DOES know better than us WHAT we need and WHEN. If I had heard these messages 2 years into my dis-eases I don’t think I truly would have HEARD them or have been ready to apply them to my life. Over 6 years in was the right time and because of that my healing seemed almost effortless and divinely guided. It also came at a time where the mind/body connection became a passion and I knew I had to share different natural healing modalities with others. If I had been ill for 2 years, who knows if that would have been the case!
Thanks again Stephen. It has been wonderful sharing with you and I look forward to us both growing even more and sharing our successes and life lessons!
Love, Jenny

Wow. What a wonderful and inspirational story. I read The Power of Your Subconscious mind many years ago, but will surely revisit it again this week. Isn’t that a wonderful thing about a book - you can revisit it over and over again.
And those questions do send tingles throughout the body. They are exciting questions. I am looking forward to viewing the What If movie.

Stephen, I found your blog through your interview with Karen Putz. I liked what I read so I subscribed and I want to you know that I THOROUGHLY enjoy reading it! I had a difficult time staying awake this morning and took an hour nap. When I awoke, instead of feeling better, I felt worse and felt like I was hit in the head with a brick. So I sat down and read your blog and I have to say that I now feel awakened and energized! Thank you! Keep it coming! :o)

@ M.Grant:
I also cannot wait to see it too! It’s a movie “whose time has come” and I think will be even bigger than “The Secret” because it goes deeper and asks probing and tantalizing questions.
What role did you play since you said “we are so proud to be a part of “What If”? It sounds like you are a part of this movie, are you?
I will certainly keep in touch and if you are a part of this movie, please keep me informed as to when the movie will be subtitled/closed-captioned for the deaf/hard of hearing.

@ Rebecca Dufek:
Wow, that’s such a great compliment to know that after not feeling well, you came to my blog to read some articles and then you felt more energized! That’s wonderful to know.
In fact, I’ve heard one other person had a similiar experience where after reading some of my work, the energy followed her all throughout the house! I was like, “Wow, really?”
When I first started this blog, I made an intention to provide a positive place where good energy would be created and then shared with the rest of the world. That’s what appears to be happening and I’m very grateful for it.

@ Leisa Watkins:
Having a book in hand on your bookshelf is indeed a great advantage because then you can always go back and re-read the material, perhaps with a different mindset compared to when you first read it. That’s the beauty of owning books and DVDs because it’s always there for us to review later.
Yes, I agree - those questions absolutely sends tingles throughout the body. It probes even deeper than many of the movies out there. What IF? It’s almost eerie, you know? But tantalizing at the same time.
I am also looking forward to viewing the movie as well, as soon as it’s closed captioned. I’ve been told by the director himself that this was in the offing so we’ll see. Once that happens, no one will be left out and everyone will get to participate and benefit. Wouldn’t that be incredible?

@ Jenny Mannion:
Jennifer, you are absolutely welcome - your interview with the director James was a Godsend - it had to be because ever since then I’ve been on fire in my heart. I’m not yet done with the book but because of your “innocent” email, I’ve been led on a new path that could take me to places I never dreamt would happen. So I thank YOU!
I’m glad that you want to read Joseph Murphy’s book again. It’s pretty cool.
Yes, you’re right that God/The Divine/The Universe knows better than us what we need and when. You’re absolutely right about that!
Thanks for being such a blessing in my life! I look forward to the day we meet.

I am also a fan of Jennie’s and read her interview with great interest. I am going to watch the movie.
I think it is necessary for us to hear the truth over and over in many different ways.
Something finally clicks! And it can be the smallest thing - and we get it.
Thanks for reminding me once more that the Universe is on my side.
I keep forgetting.
I am looking forward to “getting it” sometime soon. Maybe after the movie. I’ll let you know.

@ Mercedes G.:
Ah, how wonderful to “meet” you and learn about your role in the “What If” movie. Did you know that I am interviewing James here at my blog soon? I’ve already sent him a list of questions and am waiting for him to get back to me with his responses. I’m very much looking forward to showcasing him and the movie very soon.

@ Corinne Edwards:
Yes, sometimes we are presented with the same things over and over again until it finally clicks, as the above mentioned book did for me. I haven’t seen the movie yet as I’m waiting for it to be closed captioned but do let me know what you though of it.
Indeed the universe is on your side Corinne. Always has been and always will be. That’s one of the greatest truths and secrets!
P.S. Are you downloading the movie or are you getting the DVD? I plan to get the DVD when it’s captioned.
