Walking Down Memory Lane on My Birthday

Since it’s 3 minutes past midnight on the 20th, I’d have to say yesterday was my birthday. Throughout the day, I thought to myself, “How can I celebrate my birthday with the fantastic community of readers, subscribers, fans, friends and clients who have come to Adversity University?” Then it hit me - there was an email from Scot Herrick and another one from Tammy Lenski, both of whom invited me to participate in yet another meme. (Photo credit: Maxy37)

You’ll notice I rarely involve myself in memes these days unless they serve a useful purpose. When I first started this blog in 2006, memes were a great way to obtain link love and get my name out there. But now that it’s almost two years later (where did the time go?), a lot of things have changed and most memes are no longer an appropriate fit here at Adversity University.  But every once in a while I’ll get one that makes good sense.

So when Scot and Tammy tagged me on this “recycling of underappreciated posts” meme, I realized it was a perfect opportunity to take a walk down memory lane on my birthday and share a couple of older posts with you.

Here are 3 of them for you to read and comment on if you’re inspired to do so:

Food for thought: Rather than tagging specific people on this meme, if you are a blogger and you’re looking for an excuse to rehash some of your older, “underappreciated” posts, consider yourself tagged by me!

If you liked this post and you want to be notified of the next one, subscribe via Email or Full Text RSS Feed. I would love to have you as part of the community!

As well, I don’t participate much in meme’s because my readers are my audience and they don’t much care for what passes as link love.

But, in this case, I thought it was a great way to highlight some good content from the past — usually from the beginning of our blogs since we didn’t have the traffic we do now and content can be buried.

And since it is still the 19th in Pacific Time, Happy Birthday, Mr. Stephen!

    Happy Birthday for yesterday!

Thanks for highlighting some of your older posts - as a new reader, I’m starting to wend my way through your archives to catch up on what I’ve missed, and it’s great to have some personal recommendations from you.

Off to read those posts now… :)

    Stephen, happy birthday to you!

I loved your swimming story…man, I was in that pool with you and my heart was beating rapidly as you relayed the sequence of events during the race. Beautiful.

    Tammy:

I’m so glad you enjoyed the swimming story! I actually forgot to post some photos - shoot! I’ll have to go into my files and pull them up. Thanks for the comment and for reminding me I need to use them - had them scanned not long ago.

    Mags:

I’m glad you enjoyed a trip down memory lane with me. I’m going to go back and add some photos to the swimming story. I completely forgot about them.

From time to time, I will be adding “long-lost” posts because nowadays I have a lot of new readers coming through the google search ranks. Plus many new subscribers such as yourself haven’t seen the old ones.

    Happy Birthday Stephen!
My birthday is coming up next week, and I’m writing a post on the best b-day present I gave to myself (will be posted soon). What would be yours?

Happy Birthday to you in advance!

The best birthday present I gave myself?

Hmmmm…..well, I can’t say it was a cigar because I get those often enough so that doesn’t count. Going to the gym and giving myself a good workout that made me feel good afterwards is also something I do more often so I guess that doesn’t count either.

Hmmmm….You know something? I’ll have to think about this! I can’t actually remember the last time I gave myself a big, extravagant birthday gift (or at least something I normally don’t buy myself). Hmmmmmm..you’ve planted a seed in my head! Thanks. :)

Happy Birthday, Stephen. I know it was a good one because you would not choose for it to be any other way. I will spend some time today reading the posts from the past. Thanks for sharing them.

    Happy, happy birthday, Stephen!

This has been an exciting year for you.

Wishing you even more success in the new year. I see nothing but new ventures and happy times.

(No, we are not asking how old you are!)

    Corinne:

You have a wonderful sense of humor!

Our connection was made even more special when we had the opportunity to meet when I went to Chicago for the SOBCon08 conference. It was worth every penny.

Thank you, Corinne, for your continued support. BTW, here’s an alert for you and those who are interested:

See if you can set your Google Alerts to send you emails when my name appears b/c beginning this Friday, the article I mentioned that was being written by a nationally syndicated columnist will begin appearing online across the nation starting this Friday, May 23rd. It should be interesting where that leads to. :)

Thanks for hanging in there with me throughout the blog’s journey.

    Patricia:

I’m glad you’ve been on the journey with the others who’ve become an integral part of Adversity University. I’m looking forward to whatever changes I will bring to the blog.

I’m about to go back to posting videos again after a lengthy absence, primarily having to do with the struggle in finding the right camcorder. I think I may go back to the first one I had when I started taping for the blog. I took it back because it wasn’t compatible with MS Video Editor but I think I’m going to repurchase the camcorder and buy myself a video editing software package that will accept the format coming from the original camcorder. Stay tuned!

    Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Ok, that’s another vote to get going on this stuff. I hear you - thanks a lot. I’ll make a point of going back to the store and getting the camcorder tomorrow, Friday or at the very least, this weekend.

Thanks for the good wishes. “Hamster Head”? That, I’ve got to check out. Sounds funny. Reminds me of a hamster I used to have as a kid. It bit me one time when I put him on my bed next to me, next thing you know, the hamster’s flying in the air when I reacted to the bite (it went flying cuz I reacted suddenly with its teeth still in my finger). LOL

It’ll be fun to have you join us with this meme. It’s a good excuse to dig in your archives and pull up some old articles that you’ve written for the benefit of new readers and visitors to your blog. Saves them from having to do it themselves. Good luck!
