What's ironic is that Darren (in the passenger seat of the commercial) has cochlear implants and speaks like you, Stephen. :)

Hi Shelley:

Did you see this commerical floating around on the Internet or did you actually see it on television? I'm thinking you probably didn't see it on TV because they haven't "aired" it yet.

But in any case, you might be shocked to learn that there are some parts of the deaf community (those who don't use sign language) who are in an uproar over this because they feel the rest of the population will think most deaf people (like myself) can't talk. I can understand their pain.

Imagine if this commercial had a deaf person (like me) talking throughout the commercial without using sign. The very same people who praised this commercial would be in an uproar.

Can't make everyone happy! Even though I don't sign very much, I thought it was a pretty cool commercial. :)

Lisa:

It feels GREAT when we can laugh with everyone else, doesn't it? At my church we have a monthly "movie night" that I enjoy very much because the organizer is adamant about making sure the movies are closed captioned so that I can be "included." There were a few times when the equipment or the movie wasn't producing the captioning and a struggle would ensue to get it fixed. This would sometimes delay the start of movie night to some people's chagrin.

But the movie organizer refused to play a movie where I couldn't laugh, cry or whatever with the rest of them. I'm so blessed to have people who truly care about providing equal access so that I can have fun too.

Hello my friend!! I saw the PepsiCo commercial a few days ago and meant to email you. Life got so busy with the kids so I never sent you the email...I am glad you were able to see it! It is truly one of those commercials that will be duscussed at the water cooler the morning after The Super Bowl. It did make me laugh.
Create A Great Weekend Stephen!

I absolutely love this commercial too. I loved seeing my husband laugh with me at the "same" time. Generally when we watch Leno he is laughing a bit later due to captioning lagging!

I am also an email addict, thanks for the link. I'll be reading it in depth more later after I check my email (wink)

Hooray for Andy! That's customer service isn't it!

I look forward to reading The Shack, thanks for highlighting it!

I got a big kick out of that commercial because that's such an old joke-- one of the first jokes that I learned when I became deaf twenty something years ago. It's nice to watch my friend Darren in there because I haven't seen him for a long time!

Jennifer:

You have a great weekend too - isn't the PepsiCo commerical a hoot or what? I don't usually drink pop but I'll sure be buying it for my next party! Your visit was also welcome - thanks for stopping by.
