Expressing gratitude doesn’t have to be limited to just the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. This weekly theme has become a way for me to keep the power of gratitude circulating in my life….and yours. (Photo credit: takingcare)
It looks it’s catching on with bloggers like Deborah Brown of Bizinformer. You can never be too thankful, in my opinion.
Speaking of Deborah, she recently wrote about the value of expressing your worth to potential clients and being polite but firm whenever prospects say, ”You Are Too Expensive…“ I loved how her brother, “the quintessential sales person,” handles this objection:
That’s okay, you just aren’t ready for me yet. But keep me in mind for when you are ready because I know I can help you effectively reach your target prospect. (Dan Chaddock)
If you dilly-dally with your price, you’ll have a hard time with this kind of response. What helps is that I truly don’t believe in competition. Why? Because no one else owns the rights to my personal story and everything else I’ve experienced, accomplished or endured. The same holds true for you. A firm change of mindset about your self-worth is all it takes to attract, through the law of attraction, clients who can and will pay what you ask for. Because of this philosophy, I rarely get prospects who try to dicker over my price. Radical, hmm? Or just common sense?
NUMBER OF COMMENTS AT ADVERSITY UNIVERSITY SOARS!
- This past week has witnessed an astounding level of participation from the Adversity University community with truckloads of comments to articles like ”Confessions of a Motivational Speaker,”and “How to Stop Strangers Dead in Their Tracks….” The motivational speaker post received the highest number of comments (over 30) and I want to thank you – readers, visitors and subscribers for jumping in with your thoughts. Okay, I admit it, half of the comments were mine!! But still, that’s the highest level of activity this blog has ever seen. Please keep them coming. I LOVE interacting with you!
- Seeing how people like reading about “confessions,” what should I write about next? Let’s see…. How about “Confessions of ………..”? NO, NO, let’s not go there!
FIRST-EVER INTERVIEW AT THE UNIVERSITY
On Wednesday, I posted the first-ever interview at Adversity University (Part One of Two) with Albert Foong of Urban Monk. The interview was so successful that I’ve decided, thanks to the suggestions of readers like Michael Werner, Corrine Edwards and Chris Melton, to turn this into a new series to be called something like “Scholarly Visits.” What do you think of that?
Do you have a better suggestion for the name?
You do?
Okay, then let’s have fun with this and turn it into a contest! Over the weekend see if you can come up with suggestion for the name of the new interview series and come back here to post your ideas in the comment section. Then on Monday (12/10/07), I’ll list them for everyone’s vote.
The winner’s name and title will appear in the next weekly gratitude post on December 14, 2007 Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 9pm EST in the US. To see the poll, go here: Interview Naming Contest is Here!
The winner will get……I don’t know yet.
Surely, you don’t need to be bribed for something like this do you?
You do?
My word! (gasp)
Well, I haven’t thought of anything yet. Maybe your favorite book?
WAIT! I know what we’ll do!
How about an autographed copy of heartwarmers? This book includes the story of my fifth grade teacher who forever changed my life with three words, “THAT’S RIGHT STEPHEN!” I only have two left because they are out of print but one of them is yours if you are the winner and you want a special copy of it.
OR
Perhaps you’d like an autographed copy of “Chicken Soup for the College Soul,” where my Merrill Lynch interview story was published?
If you’re the winner by popular vote, you get to pick!
FIRST-EVER TELEPHONE RADIO INTERVIEW
- I’ve always realized the far-reaching power of blogging but it wasn’t until this week I realized just how much. Back in September 2007 (one month before we moved to WordPress), I posted ”7 Tips for Resolving Conflicts Quickly and Peacefully,” at hugely popular Pick the Brain.
- Thanks goes to John Wesley for giving me an opportunity to be a guest author with that article because it somehow found its way to a producer of a radio show in Minneapolis. I was contacted this morning, three months after the article was first posted, for a radio interview via telephone next week. You can imagine my surprise!
- Are you wondering how I, a deaf guy, will conduct this phone interview? Stay tuned for more details…..
Food for thought: What are you grateful for this week?

Stephen,
Great advice on sticking to your price, from both you and Dan. Thanks for that.
As far as the name for the guest, this might be overly obvious, but “guest lecture” does it for me – The Adversity University Guest Lecture Series.

Albert:
And I am rather grateful for the heartfelt, genuine responses you had for my questions! It was a pleasure to host you for the first-ever interview series.

Nick:
My philosophy is if someone wants to do business with you, your likeability factor is high and most of all you believe in yourself, the right kind of clients will find a way to work with you.
You’re the first to throw in the hat for the name of Adversity University’s new interview series – thanks for getting it started!

ADVERSITY DIVERSITY?
or simply
STEPHEN HOPSON’S INTERVIEWS?
PS I don’t need a prize! You are a prize!

Hello there Corinne:
You made me smile when you said that I was “a prize.” Thanks. You always manage to make me smile. That’s amazing because it happens no matter what. Every time I see your name, I light up. Cool!
Thanks for your input on the name of the new interview series. You’re the SECOND one to throw in the hat with a suggestion or two. Consider it on the list of things for voting next week!

Hi Stephen,
I also believe that people do business with people they like to do business with. That’s the whole point to forming a network. Keep up the great ideas.

Chris:
It’s called the “likeability factor” and people have varying degrees of success with it. I can only imagine yours is quite high.

I have really enjoyed your “End of Week Gatitude” series, so I can not wait for your next series no matter what you call it. I think I would go with something like “Adversity Press”, “Adversity on the Beat”, or “Hopson Talks”.
Back to this article…….
I love the part about “your price” and the law of attraction. I will be writing an article soon on a personal account of how the law of attraction is changing the lives of me and my wife, so keep an eye open for it.

Dear friend, Intuition gives me a feeling of being high
as I consider you in my life. This is my guide as you spoke of spiritual guidance. I have type 2 diabetes and
neuropathy in my feet along with other symptoms. This is of concern to me . I am 72 years old Born, 5-6-1935 9 am
Detroit, michigan. I have always known that I had a strong connection with spirit but in an absent, well established way. I seem to automatically do the right thing and have always had remarkably “good luck” and secure guidance. How
ever, I do have problems with anxiety and depression.
I feel strongly to ask for your help and I know that you
will know how to help me. Thank you.—Doug Rosbury

Every single one of your one line comments touched my heart!
When put together, they look like a song!

@Doug: Bless your heart for stopping by and becoming part of Adversity University. It sounds like that you have had a natural connection with the spirit for you have listened to your angels in a natural sort of way, without struggling to do so. People who struggle to hear God often block themselves from receiving messages. You seem to have been “in the flow” for a long time. It’s reassuring to hear stories like yours. Thanks Doug for sharing. And welcome!
@Brad: I think you might be confusing two different series that I have going on here at the University. There’s the weekly gratitude post, the name of which I am not changing. The name ideas you just gave me was for the new interview series, which I will throw in the contest for voting. Part II of my interview with Albert Foong appears tomorrow. You’re gonna love it.

Deb:
There you go! Thanks for the idea. I’ll be compiling a list of suggestions in a poll as soon as I figure out to create a poll, LOL.

Hi Stephen -
Been thinking about the name of your series and recalling all the different names they gave my show.
It started out with “The Miracle Show”
then
“Corinne Edwards Interviews” (which I stole from Barbara Walters)
then “Book Tours with Corinne Edwards”
the most popular name of all was
Corinne Edwards Interviews.
My vote is to call the series
“Stephen Hopson Interviews”
Big reason.
My feeling is that if you are going to try to publish a book, your name should be out there as much as possible.
That’s my two cents worth!
Love,
Corinne

GREAT point Corinne !!!!
Withdraw mine, because I could not
agree more with your suggestion
and reasoning for it.

Just watching out for our boy here!
Happy Holidays to you!
