I felt compelled to write that article because I wanted to share what I was going through since many people have been through the same process of elimination. When I saw how the other agent wrote about the process, I had to include it in here. Reading it made me realize we all engage in a process of elimination every single day.

If you're in a bookstore, you only have a limited amount of time to find the book that appeals to you. It's the same with the agent who gets a ton of queries. Going back to the bookstore example, you're not necessarily rejecting all the other books on the shelf. You just cannot possibly buy them all! So you have to be selective. It's the same with agents.

I've heard stories where some agents will see potential in a person while another agent won't. It's like two people looking at a painting - one will think it's gorgeous while the other sees it as utter trash. Interesting, isn't it?

This is a very encouraging post that is full of friendly reminders about realities many 'aspiring-to-be-published' authors may not know. My own story of finding a literary agent and being approached about publishing relates to what I perceive as a transformation in my own mindset and fundamental motivation. People seek to write books and publish for different reasons. Only you can evolve to discern the right reasons for you. Even then, you may read stories about books that became best sellers after being rejected hundreds of times before they were accepted. Receiving a rejection letter from a publisher is humbling, but it is not a personal rejection of your soul or who you are. The more you realize everything you do in this life is part of a growth process, the more meaning you will intuit in everything you see.
