I guess it is (persistence and determination ingrained in my soul) because for as long as I can remember, whenever I set my sights on something and make a firm decision to pursue it, something magical seems to take over. It's hard to explain but I feel as if I am on a magical carpet heading towards the vision or goal set before me.

It's true that some people like what something represents (i.e. fame, money, self gratification, approval, credentials, etc). I admit that for a long time publishing a book would satisfy my ego but I'm gradually making the move to the idea of how much my book of stories can and will make a difference and help/inspire/motivate people. That's really the purpose of my "future" book and I know it in my heart. I just need to make the internal shift from ego to heart.

You are absolutely right that the associated legitimacy of publishing begins inside ourselves - not from the outside! Amen to that. Now all I need to do is take that to heart and absorb it on a cellular level.

Thanks for sharing, Liara!

Persistence and detemination are already ingrained in your soul. Even though there is no certainty you will publish you book right now, as you cultivate the awareness of doing so, and understand your underlying motivations, you appreciate what publishing or not really means.

I have met people who talkers and doers. Each person has theri own reasons for acting or not on their ideas. Some people tell me they desire to write books, but they only really like the idea of what this represents. They see images of bestseller lifestyles and want this for themselves as a reality. These kinds of people are not interested in the process. Of course, different ways exist to share a story. You can also publish a book yourself and discover few people ever read it. Some people publish to publish or just to say they have. People who say they wish to be writers often forget or reamain unaware that they already are. They associate legitmacy with a published work and legitimacy begins inside.

I did see that movie and it did make me feel somewhat nostalgic. There were a lot of similarities, it was pretty amazing. That episode of my life taught me that once I set my mind on something, I am more than likely able to achieve it despite the obstacles (real or perceived).

I need to push myself and get that book published! It's been on the shelf way too long.

Stephen, this story reminds me of the Pursuit of Happiness tale that was made into 2006 film with actor Will Smith. If for some reason you missed that film, then you may get nostalgic when you see it. The film is a huge test of faith and self-confidence. In Will's case, he had a son to look after amidst the changes in his work life, but the drama and build-up are definitely experiences you would relate to with your life. I look forward to your forthcoming book.

[...] When I made the decision to go from a safe, 9-to-5 clock-punching job at the bank to a career as a stockbroker at Merrill Lynch, I thought I would never hear the end of the comments some of these people were making like, “You’re crazy!” “You’ll never make it in this business.” Had I listened to them, I would not have gone on to enjoy a six-figure, award-winning career at the firm. I would never have known that I had what it took to make it in the securities business. You can read about an interview I had with them here. [...]
