Lisa:

I have right next to me a stack of blank thank you cards, ready to go at a moment's notice. I once sent a thank you card to a couple from New York who had helped me prepare for a humorous speech contest I had done at Toastmasters. I hadn't seen them in several years yet I felt compelled to send them a card.

I received an email from the husband who told me his wife shedded tears of gratitude for such a simple gesture. It made such a profound impact on her. So I can imagine why you will forever remember the principal who took the time to reach out to you. Many people don't take the time to do that anymore, using email as a substitute. It's not the same thing.

Isn't it amazing how a small gesture can pack a powerful punch! I recently made a phone call to my daughter's principal. I wanted her to know how much I have appreciated my daughter's teacher. The teacher has embraced our culture of sign language and set up a once a week sign language session. The kids can do the entire calendar segment in sign language without their voices. In return to my phone call, I got a handwritten note. I will never forget this principal.
